Quick Sunday update - Riggs edition

What a weekend. Stay tuned for another update mid-week about next weekend’s meeting - if we meet, it will not be formally, but there may still be a gathering option for folks that want to get together and chat (and perhaps do voter outreach for Riggs - pending updates).

This update is all focused on Justice Allison Riggs - our champion of democracy and voting rights. I’ve been working on a social media campaign on Instagram with Kate Barr and Heather from @momsfornc - check out the @bullcityindivisible Instagram for more.

For more on the Riggs election saga — read Bryan Anderson’s Anderson Alerts article. The latest update here and an incredibly important article here. The TL;DR version: they said that the 60,000 ballots should count, the 267 voters that don’t live in the US but whose parents did should have their votes tossed (although these may not all be correct — read the Anderson alerts articles!!), and that the military ballots who voted under UOCAVA should have to present a valid photo ID to be “cured”. The problem? (Other than the fact that this is completely ridiculous as the federal law under UOCAVA says they don’t have to provide an ID - there wasn’t even a place to submit on the online application which 95% of voters used). These voters are tricky to get in touch with - they may well be on a submarine!

The amazing Kate Barr has set up a helpful website: itstherealsteal.com - you can sign up to get updates (they are simple and very time sensitive - within an hour of new information on the race!), as well as other helpful links and a timeline. She’s a great communicator so if you want the info, fast, and easy to understand, this is the place to go.

There will be a 30 day “cure” process for military voters. We are waiting for next steps from the campaign but we will need help — sign up to volunteer at NCDP.org/protectthevote. We will know more about the final lists on Tuesday, April 15th.

On Monday April 14th - TOMORROW- there is a rally with Justice Riggs to Protect the Vote. I know it’s a work day but please go if you can! 10 AM at Bicentennial Plaza in Raleigh - more info here.
